My name is Andrew Rickards. Andrew is a dedicated teacher with a creative approach to teaching music, based on principles that were the foundation of his own speedy musical development. Andrew has performed with various and ensembles but has more recently taken an interest in music composition - including composing music especially for his own students. He is familiar with most styles of music, blues, rock, jazz, having studied early and classical music, and other contemporary styles. Andrew has been teaching piano and music theory since 2005, preparing students for exams, auditions and scholarships. Beginning his music studies relatively late, at 17, Andrew quickly developed a passion for music (and in particular music for the piano) and within just 4 years had received an Associate diploma (AMusA) in piano from the AMEB and was accepted into the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, graduating with a BMus Studies in 2008. About Me Andrew Rickards is a piano and music theory teacher based in Sydney's eastern suburbs. Students may choose their preferred lesson length, i.e.; A half hour lesson is $30 A 45 minute lesson is $45 A one hour lesson is $60 A discount of 10% is also available for those wishing to pay in advance for a term of 10 weeks. Lessons from then on are priced at $60 per hour. All new students are offered a Free Introductory Lesson. I believe that in music we never stop learning, and the process of learning music, so my goal as a teacher is to help the student understand music, so that they may become effective independent learners. Emphasis in the lessons is placed on creativity and allowing students to develop naturally as musicians. I have a broad knowledge of musical styles and techniques and am able to tailor lessons to suit the student's individual needs and interests. I offer private music tuition to students of all ages, from absolute beginners to advancing students preparing for diplomas and tertiary entrance exams.
