The royal flying doctor service of australia is a not-for-profit charitable service providing aeromedical emergency and primary health care services together with communication and education assistance to people who live, work and travel in regional and remote australia. The rfds has an important role to play in addressing the poor health status of indigenous australians. - indigenous health: it has long been recognised that the health of aboriginal and torres strait islander people is of a standard considerably lower than that of non-indigenous australians. - female gp clinics: a government funded program, with the rfds as the facilitating body that coordinates the delivery of female general practitioners to identified rural and remote locations. - inter hospital transfers: patients are transferred between small rural and remote area hospitals and larger metropolitan hospitals. - medical chests: approximately 3000 rfds medical chests containing an extensive range of numbered drugs and medical supplies are located at remote locations across australia, out-stations, indigenous communities, such as isolated pastoral properties, remote mining sites and lighthouses. With the advent of the telephone to the outback this role is declining. - communication: the provision of radio communication through certain rfds bases. - telehealth (radio, telephone consultations): consultation by doctors using the radio, telephone with people at remote locations. Services include but are not limited to routine health checks and advice, dental, child health care, immunization, eye and ear clinics. The services provided by the rfds are as follows: - 24 hours emergency service: - primary healthcare clinics at remote sites: regular clinics at isolated sites conducted by rfds doctors, flight nurses and other specialised health professionals and in some cases state health practitioners. - health promotion.

RFD Victoria operates numerous key services with mobile tolerant protection road vehicles, from a number of bases located across the state. Services provided from this Bottom include isolated medical consultations, aeromedical retrievals and primary health protection clinics incorporating general practice, child and family health, Indigenous health, mental health, women's health and health promotion. Services provided from this bottom include medical chests, distant medical consultations, aeromedical retrievals and primary health protection clinics incorporating general practice, child and family health, health promotion and field days. The services provided include secluded medical consultations, aeromedical retrievals and primary health protection clinics incorporating general practice, child and family health, Indigenous health, mental health and health promotion. RFD Victoria operates considerable key services with moveable tolerant concern road vehicles, from a number of bases located across the state.Traralgon is one of these bases. The Broken Hill Bottom is unique because it is one of the scanty active RFD bases, located at an airport, open to the public daily.

The Rural Women's GP Service is highly valued by local women in rural communities and enables Victorian communities to have a gender best when vising a doctor. We deliver around 5,00 clinics to more than 20 remote communities every year. Dumbo Base, established in 199, offers a range health services as well as being a top tourism attraction in the area. Dumbo conducts inter hospital transfers, the coordination of flights for the Rural Aerial Health Service (rads), as healthy as emergency retrievals. W e deliver aeromedical services for Ambulance Tasmania, they produce medical staff and we produce pilots, engineers and our aircraft. This means that RFD pilots, flying our aircraft, deliver the service with Ambulance MSW medical staff on board. The Secluded Oral Protection Health Program delivers regular dental services and oral health education twice a year to communities without a lasting dentist. RFD Central Operations also offers a range of placements for medical and nursing students. The position operates from the Port Augusta Bottom to liaise with Aboriginal patients of all ages, RFD staff and health professionals. The Adelaide Base and its team of pilots and flight nurses bear 24hour emergency retrievals and inter hospital transfers, serving all regions of South Australia, as well as the Sunraysia region of Victoria. The Alice Springs Base provides 24hour emergency evacuations and inter hospital transfers by our team of pilots, flight nurses and engineers. In addition to our core of doctors, pilots, flight nurses, engineers and operations coordinators, our Aboriginal health coordinator and community health nurse are based in Port Augusta enabling them to focus on serving people in secluded areas. The RFD call on a number of aircraft and use a expansive range of medical equipment to go about our day today operations.
