Michael billiard Architects is a Sydney internal city based practice established in 1998. The practice specialisms in residential and commercial architecture, hospitality and interior design. Design brief was to create a unused venue that would stay correct to the clever values of the locals. The building has a potent visual presence on the Jewell Highway to capture the attention of both the local population and travelers. The bars, restaurant and kitchen are wholly fresh and the extra facilities include the lounge bar, function rooms, TAB and four outdoor areas. The function rooms can operate as one large space or two smaller rooms when needed and open out on to the lounge prohibit when the hotel is busy. The use of a single, central restrict means that during the quieter times of day, the hotel can maintain a least number of staff to service the bar and restaurant areas. The goal was to create a unused hotel with an unfold plan atmosphere, with clearly defined spaces and good use of instinctive light. The brief: To provide extra room within a relatively insignificant house for a important growing family with a tense budget. This project encapsulates many of the ideas central to our architecture, the provision of instinctive light and ventilation, a sense of space but also intimacy, attention to detail and function, the use of instinctive materials and sustainability. The existing building date from the 1970’s and fronted the Hume Highway, was a faced brick building that was not attracting the moving traffic. The remaining building was gutted and replanted to provide a gaming room, bars, restaurant with dining terrace and private function rooms. This addition for a family of four, effectively doubles the living area of the house bringing in light and air to what was once a dark cramped space. The extension opens to the garden and has a dramatic double store space generous a sense of scale not apparent from the street. An addition to an existing historically important rural cottage standing on 150 hectares outside of Bathurst. This extension houses three new bedrooms and a living area and connects the old with the new via a central gallery space. Conversion of a video retail tenancy into a boutique prohibit with restaurant and gaming facilities. This building had been operating as a pediatric doctors surgery and a day concern center and was generally in a destitute state of repair. Incorporating the required facilities into a constrained plan was a intricate undertaking, requiring extensive coordination with planning and heritage experts.
