It is a website that brings together contractors who have been operating for many years in the industry. These contractors have individual licenses to carry out inspections on asbestos and handle non-friable and friable asbestos. Only qualified professionals should handle this kind of waste and not any other person who has no training or licensure.

In the period before the mid 1980s, asbestos fibers were used in the majority of building materials. Any house that might have been built or renovated prior to this period has chances of containing asbestos cement building materials. Many products used in building and construction at that time contained bonded asbestos cement such as fibro sheeting including flat and corrugated, flue pipes, water drainage, guttering and roofing shingles.

The use of asbestos was abolished in NSW particularly in fibro sheets and other products used in building by mid-1980s. Nationally, the ban on manufacture and use of products made of asbestos was initiated from 31 December 2003.

There is growing evidence that many people including women may have been exposed to this substance through non-occupational exposure especially during home renovations.

Close to 53 percent of DIY renovators reported their partners to have the effects of exposure while about 40 percent reported their kids to have been exposed to asbestos at time of home renovations.
