I am a Theoretical Particle Physicist (PhD, College Entrance, International Baccalaureate, Physics Years10-12, Maths Extension 2, Maths Extension 1, I teach Physics and Math for all levels.( General Mathematics, Oxford U. 2002) and apart from my research, Foundation). Elementary properties of solids, liquids and gases including responses to pressure and temperature. Satellites; geostationary and polar orbits. Elementary treatment of circular orbits under gravity including orbital speed, centripetal acceleration, period, radius, and gravitational centripetal force. Phases of the moon and eclipses. Structure of the solar system. Nuclear fission.
Natural world: atomic and nuclear structure; properties of alpha, beta and gamma radiation; half lives. Current as a flow of electrons; thermionic emission and energy of accelerated electron beams. Links between electricity and magnetism; electromagnets, motors, generators and transformers. Elementary electrostatic forces and magnetism. Elementary circuits including batteries, capacitors, diodes, filament lamps, resistors, wires, light dependent resistors and thermistors; series and parallel circuits.
Electricity and magnetism: current, charge, voltage (potential difference), resistance; relationships between them and links to energy and power. Elementary understanding of interference and diffraction. Refraction and elementary properties of prisms and lenses including total internal reflection (mathematical treatment not required). Reflection at plane mirrors. Basic properties of the electromagnetic spectrum.
Waves and optics: longitudinal and transverse waves; amplitude, wavelength and speed, period, frequency, and the relationships between them. Springs and Hooke’s law. Kinetic and potential energy and their inter-conversion; other forms of energy; conservation of energy; power and work. Levers, pulleys and other elementary machines. Friction, air resistance, and terminal velocity. Response to forces; Newton’s laws of motion; weight and mass; addition of forces; circular motion. Interpretation of graphs.
Mechanics: distance, acceleration, speed, velocity, and the relationships between them. Simplifying integrals by symmetry arguments. Integration as the reverse of differentiation and as finding the area under a curve. Differentiation as finding the slope of a curve, and the location of maxima, minima and points of inflection.
Calculus: differentiation and integration of polynomials including fractional and negative powers. Arithmetic and geometric progressions and the binomial expansion. Properties of logarithms and exponentials. Elementary trigonometry including relationships between sin, cos and tan (sum and difference formulae will be stated if required). Inequalities and their solution. Graph sketching and transformations of variables.
